PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE BACK EVENT WAS A SUCCESS

Springfield, TN, October 25, 2016– The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Springfield Police Department hosted a Prescription Drug Take Back Event in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back. Citizens from Robertson County dropped off 82.4 pounds of prescription pills during the event.

The event was held this year at CVS Pharmacy on Memorial Boulevard in Springfield on Saturday, October 15 and Saturday, October 22 from 10am-2pm.

The annual event allows citizens to drop off or safely dispose of unwanted or unused prescription drugs, with no questions asked. The purpose of this event is to help prevent prescription pills from falling into the hands of children while reducing the potential for theft and resale to those who may become addicted, and it provides an environmentally safe way to dispose of unwanted pills.

For those who were unable to make it to the event, but still have unwanted pills, there is a container located in the lobby of the Robertson County Detention Facility that is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

“We are thrilled to host this event in conjunction with the DEA’s National Drug Take Back,” said Chief Deputy Michael Van Dyke. “Many citizens of our county recognize the danger to our children and communities that unwanted prescription pills present, and we are grateful that they take advantage of the opportunity to properly dispose of them each year.”
